This book of historical material was compiled under the direction of the Kentucky Council of Defense. In 1918 the Council inaugurated a state wide movement to make a record of the part which the State was taking in the World War. It appointed historians in each county to collect and preserve such material as would be of value including service records of the men in the army and navy, and records of the activities of the men and women who stood solidly behind the fighting forces and gave their time and labor untiringly to the winning of the war.
