The Color Nature Library Mushrooms and Toadstools by Jacqueline Seymour. Published by Crescent Books, NY, 1978. 1st American Edition. Hardbound w/Paper DJ. Size 4to. Condition: Nr Fine in DJ. LCCN 78-50647. This book is concerned with those fungi which have conspicuous forms. Although these are mostly the familiar mushrooms or toadstools shape there are sections devoted to other shapes - cup fungi, fairy clubs and bracket fungi. Many of the different colours that fungi exhibit are shown, ranging from bright vermilion, through yellow, green and bluish tints, to the palest violet, as are some more unusual shapes including earth stars and bird's nest fungi. There is an informative introduction which demonstrates that some widely held beliefs about methods of identifying harmful toadstools are mere myths. There is a section on poisonous species (surprisingly few are lethal) and another longer section devoted to edible fungi. Illustrated with color photographs. 64 Pgs.
